What is Sweet Tooth? A single origin espresso. As a roaster that is committed to promoting our producers and bringing them out of anonymity, single origin espresso has always been important to us. The best shots of espresso we’ve ever had have been single origin—dynamic, sweet, and complex. They are balanced, and good in milk to boot.

Throughout the year we will be showcasing eight to twelve single producers in homage to our original Sweet Tooth blend. An anti-blend that explicitly honors the producers whose coffee comprised it. Sweet Tooth will be a rotating single origin on which we’ve put our stamp of approval as a great shot of espresso.

Mt. Kenya, just a few hours drive outside of Nairobi, is home to some of the world’s finest coffees. While we find many of these on the renowned western Nyeri slopes, gems like this Kainamui from the southern slopes of Kirinyaga show us that popularity isn’t everything. Only the ripest most dense coffee makes it into this bag of specialty grade Kainamui. As there was high demand for coffees as special as this, the cooperative decided to sell this Kainamui at auction, guaranteeing member farmers the highest possible return through competition. Not settling for less than the best, we followed this lot all the way through the nationalized auction system, our final bid making both farmer and roaster feel like winners. As a punchy espresso, everyone wins!
