What is Sweet Tooth? A single origin espresso. As a roaster that is committed to promoting our producers and bringing them out of anonymity, single origin espresso has always been important to us. The best shots of espresso we’ve ever had have been single origin—dynamic, sweet, and complex. They are balanced, and good in milk to boot.

Throughout the year we will be showcasing eight to twelve single producers in homage to our original Sweet Tooth blend. An anti-blend that explicitly honors the producers whose coffee comprised it. Sweet Tooth will be a rotating single origin on which we’ve put our stamp of approval as a great shot of espresso.

Sweet Tooth Espresso - Organic Hambela Gotiti, Ethiopia 

The story of Hambela Gotiti begins in the chaotic aftermath of World War II. After regaining Ethiopian independence, Emperor Haile Selassie I awarded Muluemebet Emiru, Africa’s first female pilot, a lush farmland with wild coffee trees. This land, stretching between the Guji and Sidama regions, was developed into the esteemed Hambela Estate. In its third generation, the family coffee business is dedicated to making a difference in the community, with employment opportunities including a workforce that is over seventy percent women, educational opportunities including university scholarships and sponsorship for a state-of-the-art elementary school with more than 700 students, and healthcare for employees. This particular lot hails from this outpost, and highlights the wonderful nuance and fruit forward complexity that Ethiopian coffees have to offer.
